Every transition period contains anxiety, frustration and dilemma though we have to choose one path, one direction to move forward in the life. We didn’t have enough career selection and academic choices at that time. Everyone gives preference to science rather than other subjects. If you are not a science student that means you are not a good student. That’s why if you secure 1st division in SLC you must have to go to a Science College. I would like to tell you the public perception behind the science subject. By default, science means either doctor or engineer in Nepal. We don’t bother about scientific research and invention of new things at all. Everybody wants to be a doctor or engineer. If you ask a child about his/her interest to be in the future, he/she will have readymade answer and would say “doctor/engineer”. Our partners didn’t have confidence that we would get success in the future, if we choose other than science. That’s why they compel us to join science, though that is not a subject of our interest. My subject of the interest from the beginning was to be a successful businessman. Might be this interest got develop inside me due to family background. I must have to acknowledge that I am from business oriented family. Because of that they allowed me to join Shankar Dev Campus to pursue my further education. It was one of the good management colleges at that time.
I got an admission in the Shankar Dev Campus for Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) in management (this is equivalent to +2 now). This college gave me excessive liberty, freedom, which is not good for people as well as for the nation. Everything needs to be systematic and step by step with strong foundation. I believe in democracy and do in freedom as well. When we were in School, we had some kind of control from teachers. They used to keep eyes on us, that don’t allow us to bunk classes, don’t allow us to commit mischief and other unethical activities. Despite of full attention, control and supervision from teachers we demonstrated some naughty activities (Please read in first Phase of MOF) in the school, which we were not supposed to do. In college we enjoyed excess freedom, which we never had in school. We were just like a parrot set free from the cage. Nobody tells you anything. Teacher doesn’t care, whether you are in class or not. Attending class is fully depending on your wish. One class contains more than 100 students. Teachers never try to take control over students. They come to class, teach and leave the class. That’s why most of the time we would be out of the class hanging around with friends in the canteen. However this freedom didn’t prove rewarding to us by the time we left the college, though we earned our degree. In my self assessment those two years in Shankar Dev Campus is unproductive (from academic learning prospective and carrier point of view) and just a time pass years for me. However these years taught me some lessons of my life. Especially I would like to talk about the time with friends and understanding of the divine relationship known as “Friendship”.
New day, new life, new excitement, new enthusiasm, of course new environment, tons of freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First day of the college…………………I turned into Man from boy (Just a feeling…….) I was standing alone somewhere in huge crowd. After observing the environment for few moments, I went inside a class. I looked around the class expecting some familiar faces, but all in vain. It seemed students from all over the nation had gathered in one place. No uniform unlike in school, so all students had different attire and you could easily figure out they are from different part of the country. Normally people in the group don’t bother about the other people, unless and until you are part of them. My observation found out that some of them were in a group and busy talking with each other and some of them were standalone like me. I went and took a seat next to other guy and introduced myself. After formal introduction with each other, we kept quiet, since we didn’t have any topic to talk. On top of that we were new to each other and didn’t know much about each other. It is normal and natural to have limited talk with new people unless that is for specific purpose and deal. He was only acquaintance for me till I found mates from my school and I didn’t bother to be friend with other students as well. Don’t ask why, I am like that…little bit introvert. Due to,” They are not coming to me, why should I go to them”, egocentric perception.
After few weeks we felt more comfortable with each other and started talking more often in different topics and different matters. By that time we came to know everything about each other. We hanged around together in the college. After few weeks some of my school mates and some of his school mates joined the college. Though we were in different sections we used to gather in the canteen after a break. We were sincere and attended all classes and followed up all the assignments. This continued only for couple of months. Initially they used to come to my section just to see me and my friend, but later on they shifted over to my section. That formed good company in my section. We got enough members to have fun and to do any kind of activities. Now for sure we don’t need any more members in the group. We enjoyed our company a lot. All of us were very interesting, cooperative and honest to each other which tied up our friendship with strong bond. Every class interval we used to go outside and talked and shared each others’ feeling. Slowly we start bunking some of the classes to have enough time to grow our companionship. Lately we joined private tuition and we weren’t bothering about attending classes in the college, which gave us enough time to spend with each other and kept us outside of the class, most of the time. The sole purpose of going campus was meeting friends and spends good time with them.
Two years of college life went so fast. It was full of fun and was very lively. Those years were good lesson for me to understand the meaning of friendship. I was immensely involved with my buddies. We had lot of good memories during those years. Spending time in the canteen with a cup of tea and alu chop (one of our favorite snack in the canteen), jumping over to alu chops as soon as a waiter keeps on the table, burning hand with hot alu chops were some of the common activities in the cafeteria. Drinking vodka from mineral water bottle, denying girls’ request to drink the bottle water every time, teasing them when they get upset, good conversation outside the sun light during winter season were regular behavior in the open air. Visiting friends and family, traveling different places, long drive, trekking and playing were off college activities. All these activities with good companion became valuable treasury in my life. Just thinking those golden days gives me energy and makes me feel happy. Pokhara, Gorkha and Manakamana trip was one of the best trips I have ever had and was a part of Shankar Dev reminiscence. Pokhara visit was natural, Manakamana trek was very adventurous and Gorkha incident was fabulous. Second year final exam ended the Shankar Dev era and had paved a path for the third phase of Metamorphosis of friendship.
