Promote Nepal in India and China; Context Nepal Tourism Year-2011

I have read lot of news about Nepal Tourism year-2011 in domestic media. But I have barely seen any news, advertisement in international media. As per domestic media Nepal is planning to welcome 1,000,000 tourists in the year 2011. This would be a good opportunity to promote Nepal all over the world. However Nepal needs to present herself beyond the place of Gautam Buddha and country of Mt. Everest. This is the time to spread some positive message about Nepal around the globe. In the world arena our identity is still insignificant. People know about Mt. Everest, but don’t know about Nepal and that is a duty and responsibility of each and every Nepali to lift our dignity over in the world spectrum.

Every day I encounter with news about china and India in big media houses. Currently India and China are being successful to draw world attention toward Asia; to be more precise South/East Asia. People talk a lot about India and China, but still not aware of Nepal, though it is right next to India and China. This is a time to take an advantage from two giant economic nations and their rising reputation by maintaining good relationship with them. Moreover we need lot of homework and good foreign policy to walk step by step along with India and China. As per my personal experience; we have good relationship and friendship with Indian and Chinese people. However public relationship would not be significant until good political and bureaucratic relationship has been established in the national level.


As we know India and China are two fast growing nations in the world. There GDP is growing every year and will be on the rise in coming years. Per capita income is rising and people’s purchasing power is also growing up. They are expending more in extravagance items like cozy house, luxury cars and fabulous vacations than they used to. Nepal could be one of the cheapest and wonderful holiday destinations for them.

Tourism is one of the lucrative businesses in the world and Nepal has great potential to attract tourist from all over the world because of its beautiful landscape, Natural wonders, and cultural diversity. However Nepal’s government has to allocate sufficient budget to develop infrastructures with proper plan. Nepal needs to strengthen its internal economy by mobilizing its money for capital development rather than keeping it idle. Dependency in remittance is not a permanent solution in the long run for the economy of the nation.

By now I have visited most of the tourist attractions in the USA. All the destinations are well managed and able to attract tons of tourists from all over the world. The beautiful part of those places is visitor center where you can have all the information you need to know about the place. They provide maps, brochures along with in person consultation and all of those are free of cost. More importantly I have seen significant number of Indian and Chinese tourist wherever I go. But it is not necessary that all of them have travelled from India or China, since there is a considerable presence of Indian and Chinese in USA at various legal statuses. Still that provides enough prospects to focus in Indian and Chinese tourist for Nepal tourism year-2011.

Bottom line of this article is to promote Nepal around the globe to proliferate its tourism industry focusing more in Indian and China. As per my personal acquaintance with Indian and Chinese they are eager to visit Nepal, but they are not much aware of Nepal’s natural beauty and culture diversity. It is a duty of all Nepalese residing all over the world to promote Nepal hand to hand with Nepal Government, and entrepreneurs for sustainable development of nation’s tourism industry to support the economy.
